Drawing-dining or lounge, two bedrooms or three: a simple way to decide which apartment layout fits the way your family lives.
When you look through a brochure, two terms come up again and again: DD and Lounge. They describe how the shared living space of an apartment is planned, and choosing the right one makes a bigger difference to everyday life than the bedroom count alone.
What does DD mean?
DD stands for drawing-dining. The apartment has a separate drawing room for receiving guests, with the dining area attached to it. Family life happens in the bedrooms and the kitchen, while the drawing-dining room stays ready for visitors.
What does Lounge mean?
A lounge layout gives you one large, open family room at the heart of the home. It is where the family watches TV, eats together and spends evenings. Guests are usually welcomed into the same space.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose a DD layout if you often host guests and want a formal room that stays tidy.
- Choose a Lounge layout if your family spends most of its time together and you want one generous shared space.
- Choose two bedrooms if you are a couple or a young family and value a central location over extra space.
- Choose three or four bedrooms if children are growing up or parents live with you.
The best layout is the one that matches how your family spends an ordinary evening, not the one with the biggest number on the plan.
